As a sexologist, you get a lot of questions that float through your inbox and in the course of client sessions. Some questions I get more often than not, and I thought it was time to start answering them in a more accessible way. I also know that asking certain types of questions can be a little nerve wracking to ask, especially when they come from a highly intimate place.
Cum load tends to be one of these questions.
Let’s get something straight right off the bat. The amount of semen produced in a single ejaculation will vary from person to person, day to day, and even ejaculation to ejaculation.
While I’ll be the first to admit that porn is great (I myself am a discerning connoisseur) but this world significantly lacks in teaching porn literacy. We often stumble upon porn at some point in your young lives and instantly hit with the idea that porn represents sex in a real way. It simply doesn’t.
We see porn and hit with the idea that sex requires the perfect dick, perfect pussy, perfect pair of tits, wet and juicy orgasms, and the ultimate ending with a massive cum load. These are all fantasies. Our bodies don’t always achieve body shaking, toe curling orgasms. We aren’t always wet and dripping. Hell, some days, we might not have an orgasm at all, and none of these are indicators of an individual experiencing less pleasure than another. EVERY BODY IS DIFFERENT.
Here’s the tea… The average person can produce approximately 1.5 to 5 milliliters (mL) of ejaculate per ejaculation. This is roughly a teaspoon or less.
The size of your load can be affected by everything from stress, lifestyle, to overall health. Some factors will be outside of your control, but many factors are things you do have a degree of control over.
Will these suggestions make you into a super soaker with buckets of cum? Probably not. But, they will help to give you the maximum volume that your individual body is able to produce.
1. Edging: The Art of Tease and Release
Edging is a technique that involves bringing yourself to the brink of orgasm, only to stop and start again. This repeated cycle of arousal and release can increase cum production. The science behind it is simple: the more you tease your body, the more it will respond with a powerful release. Try edging during masturbation or with a partner to see the results for yourself.
Edging, also called “peaking”, “teasing” or “orgasm control,” involves bringing yourself right to the edge of orgasm (also known as the end of the “plateau phase” of orgasmic response) then pulling back. Once the urge to ejaculate subsides, resuming stimulation.
There are a few different types of edging that I’ll briefly go over.
Stop-Start
This method is rather simple. Essentially, you stimulate yourself until you are right about to cum, then stop until the urge passes, then resume activity. You can do this several times in a single session and over time, you’ll learn to recognize when you are approaching the edge so you can take time to pause. This method also helps to extent sex as well as allowing your semen level to build.
The Squeeze
This method is actually commonly recommended by doctors for PE therapy and is great when done with a partner. You engaging in sexual activity until you are just about to cum, then you or your partner can squeeze the end of your penis at the point where the head (glans) joins the shaft. Hold the squeeze for several seconds until the urge to cum passes.
Ballooning
“Ballooning is a form of edging that that incorporates Kegel exercises. While many people associate Kegel exercises with women’s pelvic floor exercises, the same exercises are used to also help strengthen the pelvic floor muscles in penis owners which can help increase the ability to delay ejaculation and improve the intensity of an orgasm.
To idenitify the pelvic floor muscles, try stoping urination in midstream. The muscles used to do this are the same that you will practice strengthening during kegel exercises. You can do this anytime during the day by contracting and holding the muscle, then relax. Try doing this several times a few times during the day.
When ballooning, you stimulate yourself just before the point of no return. As you start to feel the urge to cum fade, you perform Kegel exercises and allow your erection to subside or “deflate”. Then, you stimulate yourself back to full arousal and repeat the process.
2. Semen-Rich Foods: Fueling the Engine
Did you know that certain foods can increase semen production? Foods rich in zinc, such as oysters, beef, and chicken, can boost testosterone levels and increase cum load. Other semen-rich foods include bananas, avocados, and dark chocolate. Incorporate these into your diet to see a noticeable difference in your cum production while increasing your libido too.
3. Sex Toys: We Have the Technology
You can incorporate a vibrator or sex toy into your edging practice. According to Dr. Justin Lemiller, male sex toys, specifically masturbation devices, have been used in successful treatment for both premature ejaculation and delayed orgasm, which, when used regularly, can help to develop better ejaculation control and intensity orgasms.
A toy like the Lovense GUSH is a great option and is even app controlled.
4. Prostate Stimulation: The Secret to Unleashing the Floodgates
Prostate stimulation through massage or prostate milking has been shown to help produce intense orgasms, but not necessarily the quality of semen. This sensitive area, located just behind the penis, can be stimulated through massage, sex toys, or even anal play. When done correctly, prostate stimulation can release a torrent of cum that will leave you both gasping for air. Here is a quick guide to prostate milking.
5. Boxers or Briefs?
According to one study published in 2018 in the journal Human Reproduction, the type of underwear you choose may actually have an effect on your sperm production abilities.
In this study, it was shown that men who wore boxers regularly had significantly higher levels of sperm concentrations and total sperm counts when compared to men who chose tighter fighting underwear, such as briefs.
It was found that “Among the study participants, 53% reported usually wearing boxers. Analysis of semen samples showed that these men had 25% higher sperm concentrations and 17% higher total sperm counts when compared with men who did not primarily wear boxers.”
What about supplements?
The fact is, there is no actual medically documented proof that any supplement will effectively increase cum load. There are a mountain of companies out there that will promise porn-star levels of cum pouring forth from you, and the reality is, it probably won’t. Most of the “testimonials” are typically anecdotal at best, and the clinical trials, unless conducted in a qualified lab setting, are not the best at providing accurate data.
That isn’t to say they absolutely won’t work; as with everything else, everybody reacts differently to different things. But popping pills filled with 30+ herbs is likely not going to increase the amount your body can produce for a single ejaculation.
As with anything, speak to your doctor about any supplements you are considering before ingesting them.
So there you have it… there isn’t a magic pill or solution to producing buckets of cum. But, there are plenty of things you can do to make it easier for your body to produce the most it is capable of producing. In the end, a healthy, balanced lifestyle is the number 1 way to improve any aspect of your life. With some additional techniques like edging, prostate milking, and overall pleasure, your body will be primed for explosive orgasms!
